Your Family Day Game Plan: A Guide to February 16th

If you are a parent in Kamloops, you know the drill. The long weekend is coming up, the kids are excited, and you are asking yourself the big question: "What are we actually going to do on Monday?"
We are lucky to live in a city that takes recreation seriously. For Family Day this year (Monday, Feb 16th), the City has put together a solid lineup of events, and most of them are easy on the wallet.
Here is my "cheat sheet" for making the most of the holiday without overcomplicating it.
The Main Event: Family Day Festival at the TCC
If you want to burn off some energy without worrying about the weather, head to the Tournament Capital Centre. This is the 12th annual festival, and it’s running from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The best part? It’s completely free.
They are transforming TCC into a festival for families with children of all ages. Based on the schedule released by the city, here is what you can expect:
- Entertainment: Uncle Chris the Clown is back (a Kamloops staple) and will be performing throughout the day.
- The Fun Zone: They will have the inflatable obstacle courses and bouncy castles set up, plus face painting for the little ones.
- Food: If you don't want to pack a lunch, Taste Kitchen and Fryers Express will be on-site.
The "Toonie" Options (Swim & Skate)
If the TCC festival isn't your speed, or if you want to keep the day going into the afternoon, there are swim and skate options for just $2.00 per person.
1. Public Swimming
- Where: Canada Games Aquatic Centre (right next to the TCC).
- When: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
- Note: This is usually first-come, first-served, so get there a bit early if you want a locker.
2. Public Skating (Registration Required)
- Where: Valleyview Arena.
- When: Two time slots: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm OR 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm.
- Note: Make sure you register for one of these time slots in advance.
Have a fantastic Family Day weekend, everyone!
